Biography

  • Emily Carmen is a Grammy® FYC-recognized songwriter and she is a professional composer, orchestrator, music editor, and electric/acoustic violinist whose work spans film, television, and multimedia. She was listed on the 2025 Grammy® ballot For Your Consideration in Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance, and Song of the Year.

Known for her emotionally resonant writing and rich string textures, often performed and arranged herself, Emily brings a unique voice to every project. She is the founder of The iLLest Entertainers, a music licensing and publishing platform uplifting chronically ill and disabled musicians, a community she proudly represents.

Emily has collaborated with and been mentored by some of the most respected names in the industry, including Joel Thome (Grammy winner, Guggenheim Fellow, and conductor for Frank Zappa), Sonny Kompanek (orchestrator for Carter Burwell), Ira Newborn (Ferris Bueller's Day Off), Richard Horowitz (The Sheltering Sky), Paul Cantelon (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), and jazz legend Illinois Jacquet. She also worked on Dora the Explorer under Steve Sandberg, contributing orchestration, composition and music editing.

Emily holds an M.A. in Music Industry with a focus on Music Licensing and Publishing, a Graduate Certificate in Music Rights Administration & Licensing, and a B.A. in Studio Composition from SUNY Purchase. In the early 2000s, she was one of the first women accepted into Berklee College of Music's Film Scoring and Engineering programs.
