Biography

Mohammed Mamdouh is an Egyptian writer-director whose films explore themes of identity, migration, and memory through visually poetic storytelling. His work has been recognized at over 60 international film festivals, including selections and awards in Tokyo, New York, Hollywood, Europe and the Middle East. His film The Keyboard screened at more than 27 festivals worldwide, earning accolades such as Best Drama in Tokyo and Best Experimental in New York. His latest film, Halal Dreams, continues his exploration of solitude, displacement, and longing, following a halal food truck worker over the course of one night in Times Square. Mamdouh is currently developing his first feature while seeking partnerships that support bold, emotionally resonant cinema.

Based in the UAE, Mamdouh teaches film and new media design at the American University of Sharjah, where he mentors emerging filmmakers through hands-on, industry-informed education.

Before shifting to independent filmmaking and academia, he worked across the media and branding industries, serving as Director of Brand at OSN and StarzPlay, and earlier as a filmmaker and senior brand manager at dubizzle creating their first original branded content series.

His films often move between real environments and imagined inner worlds, blending naturalistic settings with themes of memory, longing, grief, and the unseen emotional forces that shape our lives. Whether behind the camera or in the classroom, he is drawn to stories that hold space for loss while reaching for light, stories that find quiet beauty in chaos, and moments of connection in the most unexpected places.
