Gelila Bekele

Gelila Bekele is an internationally renowned filmmaker and the founder of Bekele Films.
Her work is defined by an intimate, visually driven, poetic approach to cinema, exploring themes of memory, place, and identity. Through Bekele Films, she directs and produces works that foreground underrepresented perspectives and emotional depth, using cinema as a space for reflection and cultural resonance.
Her recent accomplishments include;
directing "Maxine's Baby: The Tyler Perry Story" (2023) on Amazon Prime,
"Mai: Life is Not Honey" (2019), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and executive-produced "Anbessa" (2018), which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival.
She also directed the short film "The Model Activists" (2017) and published the book "Guzo!" (2018), celebrating Ethiopian culture and ancient traditions.
