Biography

Was raised in Rhode Island.

Born in Charles City, IA.

Graduated from Mount St. Mary's University.

Has written, directed, produced and consulted on a variety of feature and short films, television projects, music videos, and commercials.

Wanted to work as a Cinematographer, but found more work as a Writer and Director.

The first big feature he worked on was The Replacements as a background extra.

Following graduation, he moved to Charleston, South Carolina where he taught himself to surf and play guitar.

Before working in film, he worked as a research analyst at a variety of law firms and think tanks.

Received a B.A. in history from Mount St. Mary' s College in 2002, but took many theater and communication courses as an undergraduate. He has said in interviews that he took as many of these courses as he could without majoring in theater or communications.

Has said that he will forever be a student and often will take a class that interests him - languages, psychology, philosophy, anthropology and, of course, film.

Has studied at Brown, Georgetown, Yale, Colorado Film School, University of Copenhagen.

Childhood friends with MLB pitcher Dan Wheeler.

Younger brother of Christopher Pelz and Stephanie Pelz.

Youngest of three children.

His great-grandfather, Benjamin Cianciarulo, was the first public defender and a Speaker of the House in the state of Rhode Island.

Has a black cat named Phil, named after Hall of Fame Yankee shortstop Phil Rizzuto

He speaks Spanish and Italian.

He treasures his private life and being able to live a normal life - he doesn't talk about or answer questions about his family or personal life.

Has done uncredited rewrites and production consulting on a number of Hollywood feature films.

Lives in Alexandria, VA and Denver, CO.

Kept his car in a garage and rode his bicycle over 8,000 miles (as a commuter) in 2012 to do his part to limit his carbon footprint on the environment.

He is of Italian and German ancestry.

As of 2015, has been producing and consulting for a number of projects from Discovery Channel, National Geographic, HGTV, The Outdoor Network and the History Channel.
