  • Steve McCarten is a working class director and producer from Belfast, Northern Ireland, specialising in character driven stories about ordinary people in extreme circumstances. His short thriller Faithless, starring Sean Gilder, premiered at Cannes and went on to win multiple international awards, including Best Producer at the Oniros Film Awards. The project has since been developed into a feature screenplay, now represented by North Landing Films and being shopped at Cannes.

    As a producer, his recent credits include line producing Hot Flash, currently selling at Cannes with Screenbound. His directing work includes the award winning spy short Hawks, with a growing slate of feature and high end television projects in development, including Faithless (feature) and the coming of age dramedy Two Wee Lads.

    Now based in Bournemouth, Steve is the founder and Festival Director of Bournemouth International Film Festival, a not for profit platform supporting emerging filmmakers and underrepresented voices . He is also the author of The First Frame: A Beginner’s Guide to Making and Screening Your First Short Film, continuing to champion new talent both on screen and behind the camera.
