Biography

Eugènia Balcells was born in 1943 in Barcelona, Spain. She died on March 1, 2026 in Barcelona, Spain.

In 1968, she moved to New York and continued his artistic training at the University of Iowa, where she obtained a Master's degree in Art in 1971.

In 2010, she received the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts and, that same year, the National Council of Culture and Arts awarded her the National Prize for Visual Arts on the occasion of the Frequency exhibition.

Until 1979, she lived between Barcelona and New York, the year in which he settled in the United States. From 1988, she returned to alternating his life between both cities, consolidating a permanent dialogue between the American and Catalan art scenes.

Graduated in technical architecture, a training that marked her sensitivity towards light, structure and space.

Graduated with a degree in technical architecture from the University of Barcelona.
