- Shigeaki Hinohara was born on October 4, 1911 in Yamaguchi, Japan. He was a producer, known for Happa no Freddie (2010), A Zen Life: D.T. Suzuki (2006) and Tetsuko no heya (1976). He died on July 18, 2017 in Tokyo, Japan.
- He often appeared on Japanese television, urging audiences to have more fun in their lives and to ward off illness by always having something to look forward to.
- He was born in Yamaguchi Prefecture and graduated from the school of medicine at Kyoto Imperial University in 1937. He began working at St. Luke's Hospital in Tokyo in 1941. During WWII he treated victims of the firebombing that destroyed large sections of Tokyo. During more than half a century as a physician, he pioneered comprehensive medical checkups, which have become standard for many middle-aged Japanese, and advocated preventive medicine.
- At the age of 88 he wrote a script for the Japanese musical "The Fall of Freddie the Leaf," in which he also performed as an actor. The show, first performed in 2000, had a production off-Broadway in New York in 2010.
