Biography

Adam Spellicy is an Australian screenwriter. He spent his formative years in Broken Hill, the real-life inspiration for the fictional town of Bundanyabba in Wake In Fright (1971), and credits that experience with his fascination for dark, mysterious stories. He spent two decades as a professional graphic designer and musician before gravitating toward film.

He cut his teeth on music videos and shorts, writing and directing three films, The Body Watchers (2009), Mystic Eyes (2009) and Keeper (2011), before deciding to focus solely on screenwriting. He wrote the short We’re Not Here (Dir: Bonnie Moir), which premiered at the 2020 LA Outfest Film Festival and was awarded Best Screenplay at the 2020 Sydney Mardi Gras Film Festival, and director Tom Campbell’s short The Bends, which premiered at the 2021 Melbourne International Film Festival and was nominated for an Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award for Best Short Form Drama. His next collaboration with Campbell, the eerie short Analog Medium, premiered at the 2024 Melbourne and Edinburgh International Film Festivals.

Analog Medium formed the basis for the forthcoming horror feature Murder Ballad, directed by Campbell and produced by Justin Kurzel and Nicole O’Donohue’s company Thirdborn.
