Germany, 1936: The Nazi regime has imposed more than 120 anti-Semitic laws and decrees, the latest of them, the prohibition for all Jews to export any objects of art.

Fearful of these ordinances, FELIX ROBERT MENDELSSOHN (composer Felix Mendelssohn's grandson), a shy, jewish cellist living in an isolated village on the German-Swiss border, is ready to leave the country. But the news quickly reach his village through the radio, spoiling Felix's plans, for he is the heir and owner of an invaluable Stradivarius cello.

After careful consideration, however, Felix decides to do what anyone would not only consider utter madness, but actual suicide: To cycle/escape across the border, to Switzerland, with nothing else but his four stringed companion.

Andante ma non troppo (2021)
A recipient of the Screen Australia's renowned and highly competitive Work Development Grant (2021), Jimena is an accomplished and award-winning Director, Writer and Production Designer with a passion for film and theatre, with a special interest in historical, period and Fantasy realm productions. Her interest in the medieval, baroque, and renaissance periods, the Holocaust, and Fantasy, has fueled a passion for capturing the past through a modern lens, and her interests have led her to collaborate, as a Production Designer, with Art Director/Concept Artist, Matt Hatton (Alien Covenant, The Lord of The Rings TV Series).

Her Holocaust-related short film script, 20.04.45, was shortlisted as Quarterfinalist in the 2023 edition of the Page International Screenwriting Awards. As a connaisseuse of Ecclesiastical Latin, her personal knowledge of history has enabled her to apply deeper insights to creative works to ensure authenticity and accuracy.

Born in Mexico City, she graduated with a BA of Communications (Andres Bello Catholic University, Caracas, Venezuela) and a Master of Media Arts and Production (Film, Video & New Media) at the University of Technology, Sydney. She was the recipient of the prestigious FONCA scholarship from Mexico supporting her post-graduate studies. In 2008 Jimena enrolled in the Master des Ètudes Théâtrales (Theatre Studies), at the Université Sorbonne, Paris 3, completing her coursework in 2010.

With a keen interest in historical films, Jimena's particular areas of knowledge and special interest are the Medieval, Baroque and Renaissance periods. She is a fluent English, French and Spanish speaker, and an avid connoisseuse of Ecclesiastical Latin.

Jimena is also a performer and multi-instrumentalist (piano, cello, baroque recorder, choral singing, and the Venezuelan cuatro guitar), with a special interest in Early Music.

One of Jimena's short films as director, Andante Ma non Troppo (set in 1936 Germany and a shot in France) which she wrote, directed and produced, won awards for the Special Award to the Best Short Fiction Film (Festival du Film de Strasbourg), Best Director (Granada Film Festival), Best Screenplay (New York Short Film Festival), Special Mention of the Jury (Chicago Short Film Festival) and Best Editing (Paris Film Festival).

Jimena has also written, produced & directed other works of her own. She has also worked as a Production Manager, Co-ordinator, and researcher (art department and documentary research), working with Set Dresser Brigitte Broch (Romeo + Juliette/Moulin Rouge!) and Production Designer Michael Turner (I am Woman).

Continuing her academic research from Université Sorbonne, Jimena is undertaking a Master of Arts at Sydney University. The research subject is the 17th Century Mexican play, Los Empeños de Una Casa, written by the polymath nun, philosopher, poet and playwright, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.

A versatile professional, Jimena's focus is on her goal to Direct, meanwhile working as Production Designer, Set Dresser and Props Master, doing academic research, and hosting of international film & cultural festival guests keeps her busy.
