Biography

Darren is a dynamic force in the entertainment industry, excelling as an award-winning actor, writer, producer, and director. His debut film, BLUEBERRY SMOOTHIE, earned him the New York Screenwriting Award for Best Short Screenplay LGBTQIA and the Best Performance - LGBTQ+ accolade at the Toronto Film Festival in 2023. The film also premiered at the London Independent Film Festival. Darren has just completed post-production on his second short, SIMMER and is in pre-production with GLITCHED.

In 2014, Darren founded Making Productions, a company dedicated to showcasing bold new writing and reimagining existing works. Emphasising collaboration between emerging talent and seasoned professionals, the company pushes the boundaries of creativity in the performing arts. Darren is particularly passionate about championing women, Global Majority, and LGBT+ creatives.

Under the Making Productions banner, Darren has successfully produced 24 plays, musicals, and operas. His collaboration with the King's Head Theatre resulted in the production of 10 shows, including La bohème, which was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best New Opera Production in 2018.

Looking ahead, Darren has co-written two shorts, GLITCHED and SHIFT, and penned THE UPCYCLED BOND. He is currently in script development for three features: HAPPY CAMPER, JOAN, and DEMONIC, and has recently completed the final draft of the sci-fi fantasy thriller EARTH. Additionally, Darren and his co-writer Sharon Burrell are developing GLITCHED into a TV series.
