Edgar Rosa is a multiracial producer from Des Moines, Iowa whose work centers stories from historically underrepresented communities through an ethical, collaborative, and craft-driven approach to independent filmmaking. His creative foundation began in theater and music before he shifted into film, earning a B.A. in Film Production from Emerson College in 2012 and an M.F.A. in Producing from the AFI Conservatory in 2014.
Over the past several years, Edgar has focused on building sustainable pathways for independent features. Since 2017, he has line produced ten films while expanding into lead producing across projects in active development. In 2023, he co-founded Purple Intuition with longtime collaborator Marie Alyse Rodriguez, a production company dedicated to uplifting marginalized voices on screen while building equitable, inclusive teams behind the camera. Their SXSW 2024 breakout Bob Trevino Likes It exemplifies this mission in practice by pairing intimate, character-driven storytelling with a values-forward production process grounded in care, clarity, and collaboration.
Edgar’s producing practice is guided by empathy, organization, efficiency, and quality. He prioritizes creating working environments where collaborators feel supported, heard, and empowered to do their best work, and where production structures are built to protect both creative integrity and human sustainability. His projects seek to challenge the status quo while remaining accessible, fostering stories that invite audiences to listen, reflect, and engage across differences.
Outside of work - Edgar is committed to continued learning around social justice and community care. He values personal practices that sustain creativity and wellbeing, including music, design, volunteering, and tending to mental and physical health. He credits his mother and three sisters as foundational influences on his sense of responsibility, resilience, and storytelling. These are values that continue to shape how he builds teams and brings stories into the world.
