- A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Flavia Casà is a London-based writer/director of Sicilian and Sephardic-Levantine heritage, shaped by the Francophone and Hispanic cultures of the Mediterranean.
Her work explores female-led, multicultural and multigenerational narratives, often examining family, identity and the things we inherit. Her latest feature, Mija, is a body-horror drama about new motherhood, following a photographer navigating an enmeshed mother-daughter relationship, housing precarity and an increasingly alien relationship with her own body.
Her feature screenplay Inner Life was selected for the 2024 Athena Writers Lab. It was also a semi-finalist at the Golden Script Competition, a quarter-finalist at Manchester Film Festival and shortlisted at the UK Film Festival.
Flavia’s short film Fragile Forms, starring Broad City’s Arturo Castro, received the Gucci Award for Women in Cinema. Her debut feature, Beautiful in the Morning, was a Finalist for Best Feature Writer at LA Femme International Film Festival, while an early draft placed in the top 20% of the Academy Nicholl Fellowship.
She is also developing Sicilia! & The Various Offspring of Paolo Sortini, a TV series challengin familial bonds. Flavia has worked with filmmakers Cédric Klapisch, Noah Baumbach and Academy Award-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki. Alongside her own filmmaking, she teaches film & screenwriting through Script Salon and works as a creative producer in advertising.
