Biography

Erik Lasko

Biography

  • Erik Lasko is an American cinematographer, editor, musician, and writer. He grew up in Youngstown, Ohio where he learned cinematography through various short film experiments with his friends. Since there was little else to do in the suburbs, Erik and his friends entertained themselves by documenting their search for entertainment. This included homemade wrestling matches, crossing major intersections in card board boxes, jumping off telephone booths with umbrellas, and a whole lot of skateboarding videos.

In 2003, Erik and a group of nearly 40 other kids embarked on the task of re-creating the epic action film of Braveheart for a 10th grade English class project. The film was a huge success, and prompted Erik to pursue a film career. In 2005, he attended Ohio University's Scripps School of Media in Athens, Ohio, where he earned his bachelor's degree in video production. Upon graduation in 2009, he decided to stay in Athens for a "victory lap," taking the next 6 months to hone his crafts with minimal interference.

After about 6 months spent in Athens, Erik decided to move back home Youngstown to save money and prepare for the move to Colorado to pursue his love of skiing and the mountains. In 2011, he moved to Keystone, Colorado where he worked on the tubing hill and began filming the ongoing documentary of the search for paradise, tentatively titled Cairns. He worked odd jobs from there until moving to Austin, Texas in 2013 where his career as a free- lance filmmaker officially began with the production of the short film Back to India. To this day Erik practices his craft while making a living shooting and editing any project he can get his hands on from short films to weddings, corporate videos, Kickstarter campaigns, and even working on sets as a PA, Grip, or actor.
