Biography

Kipan (Bachkine) Rothbury, is an award winning actor, writer and director, that was born on 31 May in Sydney, Australia.

He is of French, British, Russian and Scottish ancestry. His mother and father met fruit picking on a farm and his father stowed away on a cargo ship when they both arrived in Australia in the early 1970s.

Kipan attended Steiner Schools until he was a teenager and spent much of his life traveling extensively to over 50 countries, gaining a great enthusiasm for exploration and the natural world.

With his breakthrough performance in the series Significant Strangers, playing quadruplet Australian brothers, in which he also wrote, co produced and directs, Kipan Rothbury is recognized as a remarkable talent strongly influences by the transformative approach to acting.

His early career began as a stuntman on the Matrix film trilogies, he spent two years working as an environmental spokesperson, while studying environmental science and he found his calling in filmmaking and became dedicated to the protection of the environment through the medium of film.

In 2009 Kipan established his production company Tree Leaf Films, committed to creating films and documentaries encouraging ecological awareness and encouraging environmental action.

Kipan trained at Actors Center Australia after a short stint in London at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, and he has since worked the last decade as an actor, director and filmmaker throughout Europe, Australia and the United States.

He has starred in a variety of award-winning films including Love Untitled, The Blue Fox, The Lost Aviator, Girl From The North Country and Sacred Heart and has worked opposite actors including Sam Neil, David Field, Michael Caton and Miranda Richardson.

Recent work includes: Rams, Mr Inbetween and Significant Strangers.

In 2017 he completed filming his 9-year film project Significant Strangers as well Road North his upcoming American film directing debut.
