Jorge Morais Valle

Jorge Morais Valle, born in Vigo in 1982, is a distinguished independent filmmaker and artist whose multifaceted creativity has crossed numerous disciplines and cultural boundaries. From a young age, his innate talent and insatiable curiosity led him to explore various artistic expressions, excelling particularly in sculpture, an area he honed from an early age. His restless spirit and passion for innovation drove him into the realms of graffiti and mural painting, where he developed a distinctive and personal style that caught the attention of international brands such as Adidas, Zara, and Estrella Galicia. These collaborations not only cemented his reputation as a street artist but also opened doors within advertising and urban decor, demonstrating his versatility and creative vision. His artistic outlook extended beyond walls: he ventured into theatre set design and decoration, leading creative teams in Spain and Portugal from 1995 onwards. Simultaneously, he founded the artistic collective New Order Productions, dedicated to multidisciplinary exploration across various creative fields, which strengthened his leadership and project management skills. Thanks to these experiences, he acquired a solid foundation in plasticity, direction, and production, which later facilitated his entry into the world of animation. A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Pontevedra in 1999, and subsequently completing a postgraduate diploma in drawing at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Salamanca in 2002, Jorge solidified his academic grounding in his chosen field. In 2003, he achieved one of the most significant milestones of his career: the Second Velázquez Award for Visual Arts in the category of Children's and Youth Illustration, for his work inspired by the legendary artist Antoni Tàpies. This recognition opened doors for collaborations with prestigious publishers such as Planeta, Anagrama, and Alfaguara, broadening his influence in the realms of illustration and children's literature. In 2005, he decided to broaden his horizons further by completing a master's in film direction at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), marking a turning point towards cinema. Two years later, in 2007, he finished his second master's, this time in animation, at the Escola d'Art i Superior de Disseny de Barcelona. As his final project, he premiered his debut animated short, "The Pinter of Skyes" ("The Painter of Skies"), which not only gained international recognition but also won over 125 awards across more than 300 festivals worldwide. This success established his reputation on the global stage and led to collaborations with advertising and animation studios in Portugal, the UK, Italy, and Germany, specialising in areas such as production design, modelling, and cinematics for a variety of projects including feature films, series, and commercials. His passion for innovation and visual storytelling is evident in every piece he creates. In 2024, he premiered his second animated short, "In Half," an independent work that continues to tour international festivals and garner accolades. To date, "In Half" has been awarded over 120 international prizes and screened in more than 65 countries. Among his most notable achievements is receiving the prestigious award at the Golden Monkey King Awards, one of the most significant animation festivals worldwide, organised during the China International Cartoon and Animation Festival (CICAF). Jorge Morais became the first European to receive this honour, a testament to his talent and influence in the global film and animation scene. Morais' career reflects a relentless pursuit of innovation and artistic expression, blending traditional and digital techniques in every project. His work not only showcases his versatility and creativity but also underscores his commitment to telling visual stories that inspire, surprise, and move audiences. Currently, he is deeply engaged in developing and establishing himself within the film and visual arts sectors, positioning himself as a prominent and visionary figure.
