Biography

Tara Alexandra Brown was born in Reno, Nevada and is an award winning actress, director, writer, and producer. During a visit to Los Angeles when she was 14, Brown was discovered by renowned casting director, Fern Champion, after performing in a casting workshop meant for adults. Champion was so impressed that she helped Tara land her first agent while still living in Nevada.

Bitten by the acting bug at an early age, Brown was performing in full length theater productions by the time she was 9 years old and starred as Alice in "Alice in Wonderland" with the Sierra School of Performing Arts. At 11, Brown became youngest performer to be selected for an official cameo performance with the Great Basin Chautauqua Program. Soon she was juggling high school productions and the professional theater scene, starring as Rizzo in "Grease," The Nurse in "Romeo and Juliet," and Dogberry in "Much Ado About Nothing." At 15, Brown became a member of the acclaimed Good Luck Macbeth Theater company, starring as Cecily in "The Importance of Being Earnest" and later originating the role of Maggie Moran in Stacey Spain's dramatic play, "Killarney Sabbatical."

She received a scholarship to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, but chose to attend the University of Nevada, Reno where she was subsequently awarded the Grace-Semenza Drama Scholarship as a Freshman. While attending the University of Nevada, Brown was selected to perform a piece from "Double Falsehood" (a play thought to be an unknown work of William Shakespeare) during the highly anticipated scholarly debate between Tiffany Stern (Oxford University) and Brean Hammond (The University of Nottingham.) She also had the opportunity to study with Tony Award Winner, Adam Cates (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder) during the university production of "A Christmas Carol: The Musical." She graduated summa cum lauda from Southern New Hampshire University where she earned a B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing with a concentration in screenwriting.

Brown moved to Los Angeles and quickly began working in film and television. She made her feature film debut in the horror film, "Evil in Her" and television debut in Discovery Channel's popular true crime series, "People Magazine Investigates." Brown was diagnosed with a rare form of Type 1 Diabetes known as "LADA" and became insulin-dependent at 20. Intent on being a voice for performers with disabilities, Brown stars in the upcoming short film, "And Yet So Far" about Type 1 Diabetes, a project she also co-wrote and executive produced. She is known for portraying Officer Glover on the CBS hit S.W.A.T. starring Shemar Moore and made her directorial debut in the feature film, "Every Day," alongside Vivica A. Fox which was awarded Best Director at the 8&Halfilm Film Festival and Best Supporting Actress at the Morgana Film Festival.

A classically trained artist, she has received critical acclaim for her many performances on stage, having trained in voice, dance, and improvisation. Recent theater productions include Henry IV at the Pacific Resident Theater and Ken Levine's acclaimed comedy "Guilty Pleasures."

Upon her high school graduation, she was awarded the first Tara Brown Award for dramatic excellence by her peers and teachers which is still being awarded today. By the time she was 19, Brown had performed in over 30 productions prior to moving to Los Angeles.
