Biography

Anamika Vasudha, formerly known as Anamika Bandopadhyay and also known professionally as Ana Raaven, is an Indian-born filmmaker, author, educator, and researcher based in the United States. She dropped her Brahminical surname as a conscious rejection of inherited caste identity.

An early encounter with Italian filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni introduced her to the world of cinema and became a formative influence on her journey as a filmmaker. She later studied film and media and went on to teach at the university level in both India and the United States.

Her work spans documentary filmmaking, film and media studies, sociology, and cultural studies, with a particular interest in South Asia, geopolitical conflict, caste and identity, technology, Indigenous cultures, and media politics. Her films often emerge from and extend her academic research and fieldwork.

Vasudha has authored seven books and directed six documentary films.
