- Son of Barvarian immigrants, he inherited his parents' brewery, named Jacob Ruppert Brewery. Ruppert's father was one of the first and most noted brewers in the United States.
- Co-owner of the New York Yankees from 1914-1922, then sole owner from 1922-1939. Served 4 terms in Congress. Bought Babe Ruth in 1919 from Boston Red Sox owner Harry Frazee. Sold Ruth in 1935 to Boston Braves owner Emil Fuchs; Ruth announced his retirement that 27 May.
- Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2013. Elected by the hall's Pre-Integration Era Committee.
