Biography

Kabir Singh Chowdhry is an Indian film director, editor, and visual anthropologist working across fiction and non-fiction cinema. His early short film Good Morning (2011) received the Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Short at the South Asian International Film Festival in New York.

In 2012, he was one of twelve directors selected to participate in The Last Act, India’s first collaborative feature film, overseen by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. Chowdhry later worked as creative producer on Mukti Bhawan (Hotel Salvation) (2016), which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival.

His directorial feature debut, Mehsampur (2018), won the Grand Jury Prize (India Gold) at the Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI), along with awards for Best Sound Design and Best Editing at MISAAF and Diorama International Film Festival. In 2023, he served as editor and associate producer on I Am Sirat, directed by Deepa Mehta, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Chowdhry’s work often explores process-driven filmmaking shaped by long-term engagement with people, place, and lived experience.
