Biography

April Campion is an award-winning director, producer, and screenwriter from Southern California. Campion graduated from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va, with a degree in Communications. The university selected Campion to produce the fall endowment, which she used to finance her first short film, "Transposition" (2009) Directed by Joshua Overbay, that went on to win 25 awards.

Campion is a staunch advocate for talent, providing opportunities for underrepresented communities in the entertainment industry. She has devoted her career to bringing inspirational stories to life through compelling and artistic ad/marketing campaigns, feature films, short-films and a diverse range of projects.

From feature films to independent productions, Campion is no stranger to the production landscape. Campion's first feature film found her as a Runner PA for Tom Hanks' "Captain Phillips" (2013), which became a catalyst for Campion's successful career as a field producer. She has worked with several Fortune 500 companies on large scale productions; including Netflix's "The School for Good and Evil" (2022) and Apple Original Production's "Lessons in Chemistry" (2023) with Brie Larson and "Project Artemis" (2023) with Scarlet Johansson.

Independent films have also shaped Campion's professional career. "Art Show Bingo" (2017) starring James Maslow from "Big Time Rush" (2009), was her first independent feature film as Unit Production Manager. A challenging project at first, Campion quickly rose to the demands of the job. With unwavering support from Director, Matthew Fine, Campion took what she learned from Fine, which informed the way Campion would later construct and conduct her productions. Paul Boyd's Horror film "Scared to Death" (2023) also benefited from Campion's production management fingerprint. Trading in her production management hat for assistant directing, Campion was brought on as Dean Cain's 2nd Assistant Director for his film "Little Angels" (2021). Campion's second project as a 2nd Assistant Director was indie film "Picture Perfect Holiday" (2021) starring Tatiana Ali.

A short film veteran, Campion has a portfolio of projects covering an array of subjects. Her women's inner beauty film, "So Incredibly Beautiful" (2010), headlined the Hillsong Australia Art and Film Festival. In 2014, she produced the short film "Girls on the Run," highlighting the benefits of the all-girls enrichment program, which received the Award of Excellence for the Accolade Awards in the category of Children and Family Programming. She also wrote, produced and directed the Sci-Fi thriller, "Amoriph," (2016) which won the Platinum Remi Awards' Best Sci-Fi Short Film and Best Short Film Awards.

With a flare for storytelling through film, Campion has produced several important and pivotal advertising campaigns that cemented her desire to change the world through art. Campion stepped in to finish producing Shutterstock Studios' Dream initiative® (2023), founded by Allergan Aesthetics and skin better science®. The initiative focused on the advancement of inclusive representation on both sides of the camera. Models, representing every gender, ethnicity, culture, age, and body type, were cast to curate a library of 1,500 free-to-use commercial images that reflect and spotlight the diversity of the consumer. After the success of the DREAM initiative®, Shutterstock hired Campion to produce two global ad campaigns showcasing small businesses across the US, UK, and Canada in partnership with Meta and Tylnt. Campion has produced several advertising campaigns with Nike and D L A Films, including "The Legacy Project" (2021), a program that supports a journey of wellness and community action championed by Black women leaders.
