- Son of Geroge Henry Hickman, and Louise Winifred Hickman.
- Graduated from Springfield Southeast High School in Springfield, Illinois.
- Attended Coe College in Cedar Raids, Iowa and earned a B.S. in sociology.
- Survived by his wife, two children, a daughter, Gabrielle Hickman a son Mack Hickman, a sister, Louann Hickman, and a step-brother, Steven Archie.
- Inducted into Springfield Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
