- There is the side of me that wants to do artistic things that would never be on the radio. Then there's the other side that loves pop music. In 'Marianas Trench' it's me trying to figure out how to have both of those things coexist.
- Then I went to rehab - which by the way, I don't recommend to anybody; there's nothing romantic about not being able to walk and being awake for two weeks-they make you do this thing where you draw a circle that represents you, and then you draw all these other circles that are all the drugs you've ever done, and you draw a circle how big each one is for how important it is to you. And then you do a second drawing where you do you and all the things in your life that are important and how important they are. Then you put them over the top of each other..and most addicts', the drugs are the bigger drawing, with mine, music was bigger than heroin was. I sort of at that moment realized I couldn't do both.
- Hope for the best; Expect the worst
- You have to keep something for yourself sometimes too. And the key for me is to never, never write a song based on what you think someone else wants you to do; like I kinda just wanna write the song, I wanna write. You gotta write for you and as soon as you're writing for someone else's expectation, you're not doing it for the right reasons anymore.
- If you wanna do something great you have for the fences. And if you fucking strike out, who cares? At least you fucking took a swing.
