Sanjeev Maurya, CSA, is an acclaimed Indian Casting Director with over 18 years of experience across international and Indian cinema, streaming platforms, and advertising. He has collaborated with some of the world's most celebrated filmmakers, including Peter Weir, Mira Nair, Ryan Murphy, Maneesh Sharma, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Dipesh Jain, Manjari Makijany, Prashant Nair, Ramin Bahrani, Pan Nalin, Ava DuVernay, Jennifer Peedom, and Dev Patel.
An alumnus of St. Columba's School, New Delhi, Sanjeev discovered his passion for storytelling through theatre, participating extensively in plays and musicals during his school years. He later broadened his artistic perspective by studying photography in Edinburgh, Scotland. His theatre journey includes collaborations with renowned stage practitioners such as Alyque Padamsee, Raell Padamsee, Royston Abel, Lushin Dubey, and Bubbles Sabharwal on both Indian and international productions.
Sanjeev began his film career as a Casting Assistant to Judith Bouley, CSA, on Peter Weir's The Way Back, starring Jim Sturgess, Ed Harris, and Colin Farrell. He later worked as a Casting Associate on acclaimed international productions including Eat Pray Love and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (Parts 1 & 2).
He subsequently collaborated with celebrated Casting Director Dilip Shankar on a number of critically acclaimed films, including Life of Pi (2012), The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012), Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), Vara: A Blessing (2013), I Origins (2014), Unfreedom (2014), Angry Indian Goddesses (2015), and A Suitable Boy (2021).
As an independent Casting Director, Sanjeev has led casting for several acclaimed films and series, including Axone (Netflix), Skater Girl (Netflix), Trial by Fire (Netflix), Class (Netflix), Gulmohar (Disney+ Hotstar), Origin, directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay, and Ziddi Girls, directed by Shonali Bose for Amazon Prime Video.
In addition to films and series, Sanjeev has cast numerous award-winning television commercials for some of India's most respected advertising filmmakers, including Shimit Amin, Prasoon Pandey, Vinil Mathew, Amit Sharma, Hemant Bhandari, Ayappa, Kishore Iyer, Ashim Ahluwalia, Shikha Makan, and Bharat Sikka.
His upcoming slate reflects his continued presence across global productions. These include Reporting Live, a Netflix Original directed by Dhruv Tripathi; Tenzing, directed by Jennifer Peedom for Apple TV+; The Peasant, directed by Dev Patel for A24; AMRI, directed by Mira Nair; Captain India, directed by Shimit Amin; and the award-winning short film Kuhaan.
