Biography

Jessie Barr is a writer/director, actor, Sundance fellow, and Half Initiative directing fellow (Ryan Murphy Program) with roots in independent film, theater, and comedy. Her debut feature, Sophie Jones, was released by Oscilloscope in 2021 and holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Jessie's work has screened globally at festivals including Deauville, Berlinale, Tribeca, and Mar Del Plata, and has been featured by the National Board of Review, The New York Times, and Vimeo Staff Pick. An alum of NYU Tisch, she has collaborated with Lincoln Center and Williamstown Theatre Festival, is a 2025 Djerassi Artist in Residence, and received support from MOS Film Grant (2025), PEN America (2020), and Oregon Film (2019). Her darkly funny, deeply personal cancer chronicle, Serving C*nt, debuted at SADE Gallery in 2024, combining original films, installations, and photography.
