U.S. Representative (D) from Ohio (1983 - present), representing Toledo and the western shore of Lake Erie; beginning in 2023, her district occupies the state's northwest corner.

Member, U.S. House Appropriations Committee.

Defeated fellow incumbent Rep. Dennis Kucinich in the Democratic congressional primary on March 6, 2012 after district realignment forced them into the same district. Defeated Joe Wurzelbacher in the general election in November.
