Biography

Barton Cuong Williams is an Australian Vietnamese actor, writer, and educator based in Chicago, USA. He is celebrated for his contributions to both the arts and education.

Born in Saigon during the Vietnam War, Barton was transported in a cardboard box to Australia through an initiative called Operation Babylift. He was adopted and raised in Adelaide, South Australia and his experiences of intercountry adoption inspired his children's picture book, But What Are You? which addresses themes of identity and sense of belonging. The book has been praised for its heartfelt storytelling and has been made available as an audiobook on platforms like Amazon.

In addition to his writing, Barton has had a diverse career in the entertainment industry. He has appeared in various television series including Chicago Med, The Principal, Home and Away, and Rescue Special Ops . In addition to television his recent film work can be seen in Silent Roar, Havoc and The Meg.

Outside of his entertainment career, Barton is actively involved in education and community service. He has represented Australia in water sports and has worked as a school teacher specializing in drama performance and physical activity. Along these lines, he developed an award-winning international fitness program for primary school children, emphasizing the importance of physical activity and well-being. His dedication to community engagement is also reflected as a Coogee surf lifesaver in Australia and professional Chicago lifeguard in the USA.

Barton has just completed an Australian mounting of his theatre production "Fragile Handle with Care" at the Adelaide Fringe 2025 and "Precious Cargo" theater production at the Edinburgh, Scotland Fringe 2024 which he wrote and performed in.

Barton is excited about the prospect of working with Vietnamese American film creatives given he now calls the USA home.
