Quotes

Mark Allen

  • It is a very proud moment. I've won two Northern Ireland Open titles. I never ever thought I would say that.
  • [on his divorce from Kyla McGuigan] There was no real reason for the split, it just wasn't working out. But I think we're both happier now having gone our separate ways. Don't get me wrong, we fight and we argue like any other couple that have split up but for the most part it is pretty amicable and we want to keep it that way for the children.
  • [on his ex-wife Kyla McGuigan] We've argued about a lot of things but we've never argued about Harleigh and she's [Kyla] always allowed me access to see her, we share the custody. She also let's me see Robbie a lot as well. It's been tough to see him regularly but she's been very good that way. It's not easy at times and what's been happening has affected my play but for the most part I've been able to block things out as best I can.
  • [on his weight loss] I'm happier in my appearance. I don't want to do bad things to myself when I look in the mirror. I need to lose more weight. I'm not fighting fit yet.
  • [on his diet and regime] Before I started my diet, I was 19.1 stone which is really embarrassing to say for someone of my height and age. I'm now 14 stone 10 pounds. I have cut out all the fun stuff. Even if I do eat bad food, I eat so little of it. I try to cut out carbs as much as possible. Stick to stuff high in protein and fat. It has been hard work but I have been disciplined. I haven't gone cold turkey like with previous diets. I only drank shorts when I went out drinking. Not massive calories. I'm not a massive drinker anyway. So I don't particularly miss it.
  • [on overturning the final match during the 2022 UK Championship] I knew Alex Higgins had come from 7-0 down to win a UK final, I guess that shows us Northern Irish never say die and we have plenty of bottle. I never let my head drop, even at 6-1. When I got back to 6-3 something changed and I felt great. By the time it was 6-6 I felt as if I wasn't going to miss, and that's a great feeling to have in a big final. It was my positive mental attitude that got me through and I'm really proud of that.
