Biography

Ryan Gregory Phillips

Mini bio

  • Ryan Gregory Phillips started 2022, with his film "Shortwave" being acquired by NBC & Universal for their streaming app "Peacock,"

Winning not one but two "Best Director" awards for his feature debut Shortwave, Phillips has traveled the film festival circuit, taking home over twenty-three "Official Selections" and 18 wins, including "Jury Prize," "Best Feature," "Best Actress," "Best Screenplay," "Best Editing," and three "Best Cinematography" awards.

He was nominated for the "Best new wave artist award" at the most prominent genre festival in the world, the 2016 Sitges Film Festival.

The film received a standing ovation at both Sitges & Raindance and four-star critical acclaim from the UK film review from both sold-out screenings at the festivals. At the same time, LA Weekly named it one of the "Top 5 must-see" films during its premiere at the 19th annual "Dances With Films" film festival. The movie was picked up for distribution on the circuit by Sony Pictures & Vega Baby Releasing before being acquired by NBC & Universal for Peacock and Amazon Prime.

Phillips was also a top 10 script finalist at the 2017 Beverly Hills Screenplay Competition. He studied directing at Long Island University's Film program and received a bachelor's degree in Media Arts from The University Of South Carolina while minoring in psychology.

Phillips has also directed hundreds of music videos, commercials, and promotions, including those for Neon Hitch (Sparks), which have been featured on the front page of VEVO and MTV. His music video for Eriel Indigo's Innocence premiered on REVOLT TV. Scotty Grand and Floyd wonder, to name a few. He filmed the skateboarding documentary for VICE sports while directing a commercial spot for Kahlua, featuring Jeff Bridges.

Ryan is currently involved in multiple TV series, including a 10-episode TV show, "Hometown Tough," which follows the lives of MMA fighters for six months. Phillips' thirteen years in the industry have honed his talent for directing and writing, giving him the bandwidth to handle anything from commercials and TV to music videos and feature films.
