Matt Ryan

Overview

  • Height
    6′ 5″ (1.96 m)

Biography

  • Matt Ryan took to filmmaking at a young age, making his own scripted short films with a hi-8 camcorder and any willing friends starting at age 14. Since then he has written, directed, produced, shot and edited his own feature films, shorts, animations and music videos. Notably, his 2000 feature "Flipside" was the first feature length narrative film to come out of the North East School of the Arts, Matt's high school. He finished the project before turning 18. That same year, his animation "Totally Generic Robot" became the first recipient of the San Antonio Film Festival's Best Animation Award as well as the sole American nominee for Best Animation at the 2001 Toronto International Teen Movie Festival.

Matt has worked in a wide variety of media arenas. He has produced promotional segments for international, multi-platinum rock band Incubus, and co-written and directed "The Andrew and Matt Show" - a web series which placed in the top 5 of Web Entertainment Guide's "Best Web Series" contest. He has also produced, edited and directed segments for "Great Day, SA" - San Antonio's #1 Morning Show - and served as feature editor on "Vamos! Travel Show" which was broadcast on San Antonio's Fox affiliate.

Trivia

  • Favorite film is David Lean's "Lawrence of Arabia" but he credits Spielberg's "Jurassic Park" as the film that made him want to make movies.
  • When they were teenagers, Matt and high school friends Tim Simpson, Paul West and Joel Funderburg created a series of short films called "You's All Gonna Die". Each consisted of a plot that was made up as it was being shot, improvised dialogue and in-camera editing. The plots frequently mocked popular movies at the time but eventually produced their own set of recurring characters and plot lines. When they eventually stopped making them, there were over 60 installments.
  • Collects ticket stubs to every movie he's seen since 1997.
  • Named his production company Mister Films after his own initials - M.R.
