Amitosh Nagpal was born into a Punjabi family.
Following graduation, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the National School of Drama in New Delhi, where he earned a degree in acting.
He made his film debut in Dabangg as Sumant Kumar. The film went on to become the year's biggest hit, and his performance received special recognition.
He wrote the lyrics for Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, for which he was nominated for a national award.
