Born to Dominican parents in Springfield, Massachusetts; Fabian Baez
was raised by his mother in West Harlem, New York City. He was involved
in the arts as a child and attended the performing arts high school,
Talent Unlimited, then known as Julia Richman. During his junior and
senior years, he was a captain on the football and track teams,
respectively. He earned a BA in Film & Broadcasting from St. Francis
College (Brooklyn) and a Master's in Physical Education from Teachers
College at Columbia University.
Baez worked in several capacities instructing and helping people. For seven years he was an assistant football coach at George Washington HS (NY) and spent one season with the NY Bandits semi-pro team.
In 2007, he returned to film chronicling the recent history of the Washington football program. He met local entertainer Nick Talentino and worked with him on several projects which included directing several of his music videos.
In August 2008, he completed his first feature screenplay titled "Buena Gente" (Good People). He produced, directed, shot and edited the film. Production took place in various New York City neighborhoods and lasted two & a half months. Baez financed the film and also received assistance from friends, cast, crew & other supporters to complete filming. Buena Gente screened at the 2009 Queens International Film Festival, the 2011 Dominican Film Festival in New York and NewFilmmakers Spring Festival. The film is being distributed independently. In 2010, he wrote, produced, directed and starred in a web series titled "Career and Life."
His long term goals are to continue making entertaining & thought-provoking films that resonate with audiences while becoming a distinctive voice and champion of modern cinema. A member of the Writer's Guild, East and IFP, he plans to get involved in other aspects of entertainment helping to create opportunities for people realize their dreams. Baez is single and resides in New York City, NY.
