Mini bio

  • Richie Woodhall is from Telford, England. He was a successful amateur and professional boxer before he became an actor. He was a 1988 Olympian in Seoul, where he won a Bronze medal. He made his debut as a professional fighter at the Town Hall in Birmingham, England in 1990. He became the Commonwealth Middleweight champion after only nine fights, when he beat Australian Vito Gaudiosi in the first round. He later went on to win the European title in 1995, by beating Italian, Silvio Branco. In 1996, he lost a bid for the WBC (World Boxing Council) Middleweight title against American Keith Holmes. Then, in 1998, he beat South Africa's Thulani Malinga to win the WBC Super-middleweight title, which, after two successful defenses; against fellow-countryman Glenn Catley and Italy's Vincenzo Nardiello, respectively, lost the title to German, Marcus Beyer. Richie Woodhall retired from professional boxing in 2000 after losing to Joe Calzaghe in a bid for Calzaghe's WBO (World Boxing Organisation) title. Woodhall's professional boxing record consisted of 26 wins and only 3 losses.
