Biography

Rupert Barker

Mini bio

  • Rupert was born in Salisbury, England. Fascinated from an early age by old science fiction and horror films he started shooting his own short movies on Super 8. His first attempt at a film was 'Wastes' (1984) - an eerie drama about the coming of a new ice age. He has continued to make short films whilst having a parallel career as a producer on NBC's Today Show. He has three Emmys and an Edward Murrow award for work on that show where he concentrates on special features - ranging from history and science stories to a travel series with Ben Fogle. His documentary series 'Incredible World' ran on NBC during the pandemic. His personal work includes the documentary feature 'Mysterious Britain' (1997), a spoof horror film 'Crest of Fear', 'The Gull of Shame' and a kids zombie feature called 'Seaside Shocker' (2020). He just finished 'Stoneman' which won Best Science Fiction Featurette at the New York Science Fiction Film Festival (2023). Right now he is working on the definitive feature film documentary about the The Loch Ness Monster.
