Isis Kiwen is an ethnographic filmmaker, marketing communications specialist and occasional contributor to business and weekly news papers in México. With her company, This Is2 Transcendental Ad. Co., she has generated films like Eleuterio El Heroe (2012), presented at the Seventh World Water Forum in Korea, The Tree of Numbers (2015), selection for Cannes Short Film Corner 2015 and The Drawing of Language (2014), preselection to the Oscars. In 2022, Kiwen received recognition from the Chihuahua State Congress, Secretary of Culture and Secretary of Tourism as an artist who has generated an impact in the culture and people of Chihuahua, Mexico throughout her career in the field of cinema. Chihuahua filmmaker Isis Kiwen, of Lebanese and Chinese descent, was recognized by the Honorable Congress of the State of Chihuahua in 2022 for her work in film under the Victor Hugo Rascón Cultural Merit Award. Kiwen has worked consecutively in the production and direction of short films that involve Chihuahua society, collaborating with the Rarámuri community alongside the great anthropologist and polyglot Enrique Alberto Servín. Servín received a film gift from Kiwen in 2012 about a true story of Eleuterio, a member of the Tarahumara community. After this, they collaborated on the production of El Dibujar del Idioma (2014), filmed in Tucheachic, Chihuahua, alongside musician Erasmo Palma and poet Martín Makawi, both prominent figures within the Tarahumara community. This product won several awards and participated in various festivals around the world, even achieving a pre selection to the Oscars. Other works that include the involvement with community is the short film The Tree of Numbers (2015), which featured the collaboration of almost the entire town of Cusihuiriachic, Chihuahua. This short film not only utilized the location but also animals and crafts belonging to the town. Two years after its festival run, which included a participation in the Cannes Film Festival and won awards, this short film returned to the town to be shown to them for the first time in Mexico. "A large part of my work is to present a thesis on a social issue that I believe should be analyzed by me and by anyone who wants to see it, participate, and collaborate with me. But the ultimate goal is to involve the community so they can experience the culture, the impact of creating something that some often thought was impossible has." In the latest production, Block 8 (Cuadra 8, still in editing), Doña Bertha Jaloma was amazed by her participation, mentioning that she would never have imagined being in an audiovisual product. "That's what gives me pleasure as a director, seeing people change their perspective, whatever it may be, especially if it's positive." Kiwen describes her filmmaking as ethnographic.
