Biography

  • Jonah Wharton was born in San Francisco and raised in an eclectic houseboat community of bohemian squatters just north of the city. Wharton got his start in acting while attending college in Los Angeles where he discovered a classified ad for actors in the local newspaper. He soon landed an agent and booked a Burger King commercial, but his passion for the craft surged when he came upon a class with acclaimed teacher/mentor Aaron Speiser. Wharton then decided to pursue acting with the same intense dedication that he used during his basketball days as a young athlete. His hard work paid off, and he landed his first television role on the Emmy®-winning series "Californication" starring David Duchovny. He'd later appear on the ABC hit "Castle," where he played a British mercenary bank robber, and he followed that with roles on "NCIS," "NCIS: Los Angeles," "Southland," "Rizzoli & Isles," "Bones," and more.

Wharton can next be seen in the role of Tex in the spy thriller "Special Ops: Lioness," from "Yellowstone" creator and Academy Award® nominee Taylor Sheridan and starring Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, and Zoe Saldana. He also recently appeared on ABC's "The Rookie." On the film side, he appeared with Riley Keough, Adrian Brody, and Jesse Eisenberg in "Manodrome," which premiered at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival where it won the prestigious Gold Bear award.

When he's not polishing his craft, Wharton is an avid reader of non-fiction, with his favorite book being "Thinking Fast and Slow" by Daniel Kahneman. He also still enjoys playing basketball in his spare time.
