Corey Tomicic

Overview

  • Height
    6′ (1.83 m)

Biography

  • Originally from small town Aylmer, Québec, Corey started off as a gymnast after watching his first episode of "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers". Through saving the planet by fighting off Putties in his backyard, he developed many of his stunt and martial arts skills as well as acrobatics to be used later in life - always with the vision of creating new realities and playing different characters.

That being said - Disney movies, music and singing had always been a large part of his childhood. As a kid he also played violin (recital soloist) and sang with the "Opera Lyra Boys Choir" where he became a soloist in his last year and lead in the choirs musical adaptation of "Angel Square" by Brian Doyle. His first big professional show was at age 11 as an acrobatic child in the opera "The Barber of Seville" presented at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. He then did two more operas at the NAC through Opera Lyra (Tosca, Carmen) before switching to competitive dance. Where possible, he'd spend his free time editing, playing video games or tumbling outdoors.

In 2000 he represented Canada at the International Children's Festival in Shanghai where 53 countries were performing. In 2003 he won "Male Dancer of the Year" among other accolades and special awards and did a summer intensive session with the National Ballet School in Toronto. He completed both his Intermediate RAD and Elementary Cecchetti major ballet exams in the same year at two different schools while maintaining competitive status in jazz, tap and lyrical.

He has a Specialization in Theatre and Minor in Communications from the University of Ottawa where he studied and performed in both English and French. With a knack for juggling projects in 2006, he was cast as a lead in two ballets (Uprising, Don Quixote) in Toronto - where he would rehearse in Toronto on weekends, and continue his studies and other rehearsals in Ottawa during the week until the shows were done. In 2009 he was cast as the lead in the French presentation of "Woyzeck" being presented in honor of the founder of the productions company "La comédie des deux rives". This was the same year he graduated and placed 3rd overall soloist at Terpsichore Dance competitions.

In 2010, the film "Evol" in which Corey had a supporting role with stunt, fight and action scenes received 5 nominations at the Action On Film International Festival (AOF Fest). Ultimately it won the audience choice award.

As a bilingual multidisciplinary performance artist Corey has years of Theatre, Musical Theatre, Dance, Puppetry, Singing, Film and Stunt work to name a few. After graduating, he taught dance and did choreography. On a family vacation he saw his first Cirque du Soleil show live and pursued circus auditions and training in Montreal. Now Montreal based he earns his living acting, teaching and performing in various circus contracts. He's an aerialist as well as ground performer. Constantly searching for a way to mesh together his different interests and skills. He also enjoys writing and quick wit as well as awkward humor and loves martial arts choreography.
