Amalie Atkins

Amalie Atkins (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. She creates cinematic fables by blending 16mm film, performance, textiles, installations, and photography, combining analogue techniques with a hands-on, DIY aesthetic to transform everyday life into imaginative worlds. Her work has been featured in major exhibitions, including Oh, Canada at MASS MoCA and DreamLand: Textiles in the Canadian Landscape at the Textile Museum of Canada, and is held in the collections of Remai Modern, the MacKenzie Art Gallery, SK Arts, the University of Saskatchewan, and the Global Affairs Canada Visual Arts Collection. In 2024, she created the site-specific installation Hold the Star at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, working directly with the museum’s textile collection. Her photographs have appeared on the covers of Canadian Art, Visual Arts News, Grain, CV2, and MUZE (Paris). Her debut feature, Agatha’s Almanac, was shot on 16mm with an all-female crew over six years. The film premiered at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen, was acquired for worldwide distribution by Lightdox, and won Best Canadian Feature at Hot Docs. It also received the Golden Tines Award at Devour! The Food Film Fest, the World Documentary Award at Whistler Film Festival, a Special Mention at BIDF (Budapest, Hungary), and was the only documentary included in TIFF’s Top Ten Canadian Films for 2025. Selected for Best of Fests at IDFA (Amsterdam), the film has screened at over forty festivals worldwide, including SFF (Sydney), SIFF (Shanghai), DOCPOINT (Helsinki), Ljubljana Documentary Film Festival (Slovenia), Hamburg Film Festival (Germany), and MIRAGE Oslo (Norwegian premiere). Upcoming screenings include Docville (Belgium), the Riviera International Film Festival and TekWek (Verona, Italy), and the Sikkim International Film Festival (India). Agatha’s Almanac will have a multi-territory theatrical release in 2026, beginning in Canada with KinoSmith at TIFF Lightbox, Ted Rogers Hot Docs Cinema, and Vancity Theatre. The film will launch its US release at Film Forum in New York (Icarus Films). International releases will include the Netherlands (Bantam Film), the UK and Ireland (Lightdox), Taiwan (Joint Entertainment), and Japan (Doma Inc.), further extending its global presence.
