Biography

Dan Eady is an actor and filmmaker whose work focuses on character-driven storytelling across screen and theatre. His screen credits include Australian television series Doctor, Doctor and The Gods of Wheat Street. He has also toured extensively with productions supported by the Queensland Arts Council.

Based in Aotearoa New Zealand, Eady works across multiple facets of production, including acting, casting, directing, and producing. His short film projects include Sandwich (2024), which received recognition from the New Zealand Cinematographers Society. His visual storytelling work has also been presented in exhibition contexts alongside the New Zealand International Film Festival.

In theatre, Eady directed This Is Our Youth for the King’s Collective in 2014, which received the Sydney Fringe Award for Excellence in Theatre. That same year, he appeared in the Griffith University production The Return, a research-based project exploring the experiences of ex-military personnel and post-traumatic stress, documented in academic research by Michael Balfour and Linda Hassall.

Eady has also directed and produced applied-theatre film projects in collaboration with Queensland Health and Griffith University’s Applied Theatre Department, creating screen-based training tools for social workers and allied health professionals.

Earlier in his career, he appeared in the world premiere stage adaptation of Andrew McGahan’s The White Earth at La Boite Theatre in Brisbane and collaborated on the clown show Mud at Metro Arts. His first play, The Boy and the Goat, was nominated for a Matilda Award.

A former arts critic for The Courier-Mail, Eady has contributed writing, video, and photography to publications in Australia, Hong Kong, and New Zealand. Raised on a rural property in New South Wales, he has also served in the military and studied rural science, journalism, and acting.
