- Francisco Montás is a Dominican writer, editor, and director whose work spans fiction, documentary, and animation. With over a decade of experience, his stories explore identity, obsession, and the blurred edges of reality. His early short films The Indelible Stain (2009) and Stilt-Walker (2013) gained recognition for their lyrical intensity and visual boldness. He later contributed to the feature thriller Killing Sarai (2019), and is developing several projects, including the animated fable Butyto y la Fábula del Cielo Nocturno, the political drama El Olor del Olvido, and the documentary Reyes de la Costa, which follows a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community thriving on the margins of Dominican tourism.
As an editor, Francisco has shaped a range of projects, from the American teen comedy Sophomore (2012) to Los Pasos del Tiempo (2025), a performative documentary chronicling the pioneers of Dominican ballet.
His first novel, The Dissonant, is being adapted into a fiction podcast. He is also co-creating the satirical dystopia Paraíso 404 and the conservation documentary Jaragua: El Santuario Olvidado. A former interpreter and professor, his multidisciplinary background informs a cinematic voice that is intimate, socially conscious, and visually driven. He lives and works in Santo Domingo.
