Biography

Grant Cooper is an award winning Director of Photography currently based in Toronto. Upon graduating from the University of Lethbridge with a BFA in New Media in 2009, Grant has developed extensive experience in long and short format work by refining his craft of cinematography for fifteen years.

Grant's work has been recognized for numerous awards and nominations as well as at many prestigious festivals around the world. Including, Whistler Film Festival, MENA Film Festival and the Canadian Society of Cinematographers Awards.

Some of Grant's most notable projects include his first feature film, Circle Of Steel, which won Audience Favourite Feature at CIFF, as well as his second feature film, Peppergrass, which won Best Overall Feature at Nightmares Film Festival and Best Cinematography in Non-Theatrical Feature at the 2023 CSC Awards.

Other notable projects include Vimeo Staff Pick, Airplane Man, directed by renowned comedy director Rick Darge, as well as his work with director Sara Jade Alfaro for Centre for Immigrant and Community Services, which generated significant recognition.

Cooper creates images that become part of the performance through his use of movement, colour, and light. Though he loves a pretty image, he's known for putting story first, engaging viewers with contrasting elements that add tension, atmosphere, and style to everything he shoots.

Currently, Grant is completing a documentary feature film about action movie star, Dolph Lundgren, as well as shooting commercials and music videos for notable brands and artists across Canada and internationally.

You can find him playing guitar or working with collaborators who are pushing their craft and taking on challenging new projects all over the world.
