Lee Christian

Biography

  • Lee Christian is a singer/musician/producer/broadcaster from England, U.K. He appears in Oxford music documentary Anyone Can Play Guitar (2009) as himself. Born in Surrey, England, Lee moved to Spain with his family when he was ten years old, followed by Portugal, South Africa and Los Angeles, California, U.S.A - where he auditioned for a role in The Wonder Years (1988) only to leave the country before a scheduled callback. Lee finally settled in Oxford at the age of 17, where he started making music in a number of amateur bands while studying media & film and entering scripts to competitions like The Channel 4 Film Challenge with writing & directorial ambitions. Slowly music became his primary passion and he moved to Manchester to study recording technology in 1997. Upon his return to Oxford in 2001, He formed Smilex - named after the Joker's lethal chemical in Tim Burton's Batman (1989) - a melodic alternative punk rock band. They have enjoyed a modicum of success (in spite of their profanity laced lyrics and intense live shows) in the UK underground scene with support from, amongst others, BBC introducing and Xfm and winning Playmusic Magazine's Best Unsigned Live Band in 2010. They are working on La Petite Mort, the follow up to 2007's album 7 which was Produced by Ace a.k.a Martin Ivor Kent from the band Skunk Anansie. During his ten years making music Lee has also produced and hosted local radio & TV, wrote for various music publications including U.K. national music magazine The Fly and records and releases other acts on Quickfix Recordings, resulting in his appearance in Anyone Can Play Guitar (2009) both as pundit and in a section relegated to the DVD extras, detailing a fall out with The Young Knives whom Smilex released a split single with in 2004, the video for which, entitled Rock'n'Roll Russian Roulette was directed by Jon Spira. Smilex also collaborated on a single 'Dead Horses' in 2007 with MC Lars a.k.a Andrew Nielsen. Lee lives in Bath, England where he makes music under many various guises and is pursuing acting roles while learning to write & direct via his own projects, bringing him full circle.
