Biography

Iyin Landre was born in Taiwan but moved to New York at the age of six when her parents divorced. Since her mom had already relocated to the US, she took the long 27 journey by herself; that day at the Taipei airport was also the last time she'd see her dad before she turned sixteen. As a result, themes of identity and abandonment run throughout all her work.

Landre is an actor/filmmaker who has always been fascinated by childhood traumas and their impact on our adult lives. Her work in film/TV explores whether we're destined to repeat our histories or if we can free ourselves to actualize our potential. She digs into these themes with a cinematic eye replete with edge, grit and thrill, always pushing the envelope when it comes to representations of Asian Americans.

In 2013, she launched a Kickstarter campaign for her first feature film, The Fates, where she talked about the lack of opportunities she faced as an Asian-American actor and filmmaker. The campaign wound up going viral on Upworthy and Landre raised over $77K in the last 40hours of the campaign. Later that year, she went down to Brazil by herself and pulled together a cast, crew in Rio de Janeiro. The challenge of writing/starring/producing the film in a foreign country proved daunting and thrilling in equal measure. She wound up not directing her feature for fear of wearing too many hats, but it was this experience that ultimately became the catalyst for her directing career.

Since then, Landre has directed everything from commercials to music videos to short films to documentaries. In addition, since 2017, Landre has made over 60+ short films where she writes/directs/stars/edits/color/sound mixes all of them. She continues to act and write as well.
