- Peter Basta Brightbill is a screenwriter and playwright who has been writing for the Theater for 30 years, with a 25 year hiatus until recently, and for television and film for one year. During the intervening 25 years, Peter was a prosecutor in Brooklyn (where he handled civil forfeiture cases against Mafia and other organized crime figures) and a civil litigator in Manhattan.
Peter's work in the Theater includes the stage play "Stand-Up Guys" (1992 - 94) which was developed at the Circle Rep Lab and at the Juilliard School's prestigious Playwright's Program, where Peter was a member of the first class in 1993 - 1994, "Going Home" (1988) and "Fish Story" (1989)
Since retiring from law in 2019 and returning to writing for actors, he has been at work on a new full-length stage play about art, love and community ("Two Cafes"), two original TV pilots ("The Chronicles of Nubia" and "Waiting for the Train," previously known as "Ratlines"). Prior to becoming a dramatic writer for actors, Peter was briefly an actor himself, and still does a little acting work from time to time in friends' projects.

- Peter's middle name is "Basta" which means "stop" or "enough" in Italian, and is his mother's maiden name. Both of Peter's maternal grandparents as well as his mother were from Italy and were Italian citizens.
