Biography

Aisling "Ash" Chin-Yee is an award-winning Asian Canadian filmmaker, a documentary and narrative director, writer, and producer based in Montreal and Los Angeles, and the founder of Fluent Films. Of Jamaican-Chinese and Irish heritage, she is one of Canada's leading women directors, named by The Hollywood Reporter to its 2026 list of the Most Powerful Women in Canadian Entertainment. Her feature documentary The Pink Pill won the Audience Award at DocNyc 2025 and became the most-streamed film on Paramount+ Canada. She co-directed, co-wrote, and edited No Ordinary Man (TIFF Top Ten 2020), which The New Yorker called "a genre unto itself" and named one of the best films of the year. Her narrative feature debut, The Rest of Us, premiered at TIFF 2019. For the CBC limited series Plan B, she won the Directors Guild of Canada Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Mini-Series, and she is an executive producer on its second season. Chin-Yee began her career as an associate producer at the National Film Board of Canada and has produced acclaimed features including Rhymes for Young Ghouls and Last Woman Standing. She co-founded the #AfterMeToo movement and is a longtime advocate for women and underrepresented voices on- and off-screen. Trained for many years by the late filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée, she excels in a character-driven, naturalistic style. She is developing multiple television programs, international feature films, and documentaries, as well as IMAX/giant-screen films.
