Lianne Mackessy is an award-winning Australian writer-director. This year, she won Tropfest for her short film Crescendo. The selection panel included James Cameron, Margot Robbie and Bruna Papandrea. She was also selected for the Tropfest Runway x MPA Accelerator Program in Los Angeles.
Her short film Tuesday Tuesday received the Rebel 8 Award for Outstanding Emerging Female Director at Academy Award-qualifying Flickerfest and earned an AWGIE Award nomination for Best Short Film Screenplay, which she co-wrote.
Lianne holds a Master of Directing from the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), where she previously studied screenwriting. Originally trained as a performer, she brings a performance-led approach to her filmmaking, underpinned by a deep understanding of story. Her work is grounded in intimate, character-driven human stories - bittersweet and tender in tone.
