Biography

Christophe Leclaire

Mini bio

  • Christophe Leclaire was born in 1979 in the North of France. It was first thanks to photography that he explored the language of the image. After his studies in Paris at the "Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma Français", he chose to focus on filming between 2000 and 2007 and worked as a director assistant, editor, camera operator and script supervisor. In 2004, he created "Images Seconde", a collaborative and nonprofit organization, with which he directed and co-produced fifteen short movies: fictions, documentaries, music videos and experimental narratives. Some of these, such as Omnibus (2008) (2008) and Epiphyl (2012) (2012), were noticed in European festivals in France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Austria. A prolific period, it allowed him to practice on different types of narration, visual and sound approaches and to establish strong ties with the fantastic genre, that he then began to see as defined by a contemplative atmosphere. In 2014, he founded EGGmotion, a company with which he committed himself to new projects with other scriptwriters, and approached new forms of financing and cooperative production. Subimago (2017) (2016), the first film produced by EGGmotion, also became his first medium-length film in which he worked as a scriptwriter, director and executive producer. This film received significant feedbacks in international festivals dedicated to independent films in Glasgow, Barcelona, Los Angeles and Antwerp, Belgium. It also won the Best Film Award ex-aequo at the 4Chances Festival in Kassel, Germany. In 2016, Subimago (2017) was released in cinemas during the Parisian selective event "Les Decouvertes du Saint-André". The same year he directed and produced his first feature film Le portrait (2018), which was entirely shot in the Lot region, South of France, where he has been living for two years with his family. This last film contributes to explore his taste for the fantastic genre and mysterious atmospheres. Christophe Leclaire is presently working on his second feature film.
