Steve Crump was born on September 19, 1957 in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. He was married to Cathy. He died on August 31, 2023 in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.

Graduated in 1975 from Trinity High School, Louisville, Kentucky.

Received 4 National Headliner Awards, The Gabriel Award and The Sigma Delta Chi Award.

Received a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from Eastern Kentucky University.

In 2016 he was named the "2016 Journalist of the Year" by the National Association of Black Journalists.
