  • Charley Flyte, an Oglala Lakota and Mohawk artist enrolled in the Oglala Sioux Tribe, hails from a distinguished family of Native artists. Her mother, Kayeri Akweks (Mohawk), is a print and mixed media artist, her late father, William Stewart Sitting Bull (Lakota), was a painter, and her brother, Isaiah Stewart (Lakota/Mohawk), is also a painter and designer. Her cousin, Tokeya Waci U (Lakota), is known for painting, design, and muralism. Her ancestors include Mohawk leaders Peter Sa Ga Yeath Qua Pieth Tow Brant of the Bear Clan and his grandson Joseph Thayendanegea Brant, and she is also a member of the Tatanka Iyotanka Tiospaye on her father's side.

    Charley earned her degree in Film Studies from Johns Hopkins University and studied Acting at the T. Schrieber Conservatory. Her early work includes the Super 8 short film "I Would Die For You" and the 16 mm short "1:17 AM." She has performed classical theater roles, including Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Mark Antony in Julius Caesar. On television, she has appeared on Rutherford Falls and American Crime Story: Impeachment. Her supernatural horror script, Charla, was called by Bird Runningwater, previous Director of the Sundance Indigenous Program, "an important film...genre-bending yet socially conscious."

    A graduate of the 2021 FILMBA Indigenous Producing Program at Capilano University, Charley is also a visual artist, award-winning audio book narrator, and Pushcart Prize-nominated poet.
