  • Filmmaker Li-Da Kruger was born in 1975 in Cambodia and was adopted when she was 16-months-old by South African chef Prue Leith and her husband Rayne Kruger.

    Li-Da was a refugee, her parents were victims of Cambodia's killing fields, in which more than a million people were killed by the Khmer Rouge regime between 1975 and 1979.

    Li-Da went to live in the Cotswolds with her new family, including an older brother, today's Conservative MP Danny Kruger.

    She studied at St Edward's School, Oxford and went to study French & Marketing at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow (1993-98).

    The film and documentary director, producer and writer is also a trustee of the Nginn Karet Foundation, which works to improve the economic self-sufficiency of poverty-stricken communities of Cambodia.

    After being diagnosed with breast cancer, she endured IVF and a miscarriage with her husband Matt. She adopted a boy, the adoption process took four years.
