- After 15 years in the exhibition business, Daniel Crown sold his theater circuit in 2007 and began investing in and producing films. In 2010, Dan co-founded Red Crown Productions to continue his work in independent films exploring a wide range of genres and budgets.
Dan's previous films include HONEY BOY starring Shia Labeouf from Amazon Studios, MONSTER starring Jennifer Hudson and Jeffrey Wright from Netflix, Michael Showalter's HELLO, MY NAME IS DORIS, and Cary Fukunaga's BEASTS OF NO NATION, which received two awards at the Independent Spirit Awards, Outstanding Independent Motion Picture at the NAACP Awards, a SAG award for Best Supporting Actor Idris Elba and one Golden Globe nomination. Additional credits include THE FAMILY FANG (2016) starring Jason Bateman and Nicole Kidman, Susanna Fogel's LIFE PARTNERS (2014), and the critically acclaimed WHAT MAISIE KNEW (2013).
Recent works include REGGIE, the Reggie Jackson documentary which premiered in March 2023 on Prime Video.
A few of the projects in development at Red Crown Productions include THE LINE with Bruce Springsteen and Casey Affleck based on the Bruce Springsteen song of the same name. A biopic starring Octavia Spencer titled DOVEY based on an unheralded civil rights attorney from the 1960's named Dovey Johnson-Roundtree. Lastly, Red Crown just acquired the life rights to develop and share the remarkable story of how global soccer star Didier Drogba ended the Ivorian Coast Civil War through a soccer match.
Dan currently serves on the Board of Lenox Hill Hospital, Hamptons International Film Festival, The Jerusalem Foundation, The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, The Lollipop Theater Network, The Gotham, and We Are Family Foundation. A native of Chicago, Dan resides in New York City where he and his wife, Ellen, are the proud parents of four children.
